The petrol price – for both 93 and 95 octane – will be increased by 12 cents per litre on Wednesday‚ the Department of Energy announced on Monday.
The price of diesel‚ however‚ will decrease by between one and two cents a litre.
Illuminating paraffin will also decrease by 9c/l and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 5c/l.
The department said the strengthening of the rand against the US dollar during the review period had cushioned a 40c/l increase in the price of international petroleum products by more than 25c/l.
“The prices of petrol increased more significantly than the prices of diesel due to higher demand for petrol in USA and Europe as they move towards their summer season‚” it said.
