MahikaMahikeng celebrates its seventh iteration, expect ‘triple’ digits in attendance

2025 Mahika-Mahikeng returns with organisers having broken the bank to secure top notch local and national artists.

Entering its seventh- iteration, the fest has seen a different trajectory in that in the past it was peppered with unsavoury headlines, but lately its living to the adage ‘new broom does sweep clean’, in that in 2023 over 41 000 music aficionados turned out to attend the three-day fest.

Expect the digits to triple, as throngs of BaTswana (including other races) and other neighbouring States, to be part of the Mahika-Mahikeng, that begins from December 5 to 8at the Mmabatho Stadium, that would also offer art, music and different African food cuisine to make this an unforgettable cultural experience, the nation prides itself with.

The programme is spectacular from comedy to jazz and Hip Hop heads such as Mahikeng’s finest Khuli Chana and poetic/lyricist Stoan Seate.

Top drawers include Lira, Thandiswa Mazwai Zonke, Mandisi Dyantysi Mi Casa, Bongo Maffin, and more.

  • 05 December: Day one kicks off the festivities with a gospel concert.
  • 06 December: On day two, the Amapiano takes-over the Youth Festival. The lineup features Khuli Chana, DJ Tira, Fifi Cooper, Ntate Stunna, Sannere and more.
  • 07 December: What’s better than music? Laughter, of course. On day three, get your LOL fix with Mzansi’s funniest men and women. Kay Bhazika, Karabo Selawu, Salesman, Tshekedi Monyemore, Blaqu Jzus, Ronie Modimole and others will have you in stitches.
  • 08 December:  Come see SA’s best from Lira, Zonke, Thandiswa Mazwi, Mandisi Dyantysi, Mi Casa, Ringo, to Bongo Maffin, Vusi Nova, and Unathi!

“Our excitement is once again peaking as we get ready to kick off the festive season in style at the Mahika Mahikeng Cultural Festival! As the country’s premier launch event for the festive season, we are bringing together the best of home-grown musical talent to create an electrifying atmosphere that will set the stage for a season of celebration,” commented Shuping Sebolecwe, spokesperson: Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation in the North West Province.

“The return of the festival is a source of pride for our province. The Department of Arts and Culture in the North West is thrilled that the mission of promoting cultural and heritage tourism, while showcasing the talents of local artists to the entire nation, will carry on. The Department remains committed to supporting this flagship programme, which promotes cultural diversity, social cohesion, reconciliation, peace, and economic development throughout the province,” he said.

In any event tourism and hospitality play a meaningful role in the economy of any province, thus expect thousands of travellers within the vicinity of Mahikeng- pre and post the fest, considering festive will be upon us- as hotels, lodges and BnBs and eateries will be packed…

Road infrastructure has improved. It is also expected security will be beefed up as such events draw attention, be it good or other nefarious intentions.
