LET US rewind a bit- in 2017 Musa Motha, from hip dance group The Dynamic Crew, used his one leg to help his crew to pocket R15 000.
It was the advent of the now popular RedSquare Dance competition, if you may have forgotten.
This goes on to show anyone, of any race, from anywhere in four corners of mzansi, success is imminent!
Fast forward to 2023, the story goes, the world’s favourite drink RedSquare has gone public and invited dancers to partake in the annual competition- to stand a chance to win big, as it enters its 8th iteration.
Entries are now open and close March 3, in various categories.
Fifty-six auditions will be held in Gauteng, Free State, Limpopo, KwaZulu Natal, Mpumalanga and Mahikeng (Bokone Bophirima). So, express those platinum performances young-ones!
After all, nayi le dance kind of winning moves are guaranteed to fetch their share in the whooping R180 000 total cash prize.
Winner(s) pocket R40 000, with solo dancers competing for R5 000 in cash. An overall winner of the competition stands to pocket an extra R10 000.
“Once again, we are very excited to invite talented dancers to spill into the dance floor and express their earth-shaking swag and show what they’re made of,” says ‘Mr Cool’ RedSquare Sales manager – Edward Makhaye, at the media launch held at the swish Propaganda Club, Pretoria.
The packed to raptures launch was graced by actors Thobani Nzuza (Uzalo) and (Deep City) fame, together with Zonke Mnchunu from Muvhango and Bettina Wethu, respectively.
Top performers DJ Maphorisa, Daliwonga, Pabi Cooper and Mellow & Sleazy would keep fans entertained at the grand finale scheduled for April 29 at Sebothoma Hall, Ramotse, Hammanskraal- (Pta).
Tickets are now available at Computicket from R50 for the first five hundred, R70 thereafter and R100 at the gates.
Ed Note: Previous winners of the competition include Soweto dance crew – Soulistic Fusion Trio and S’bhujwa dance group won it in 2015. 2022 winners were hip-hop crew Nice Things and TS Galaxy Cheerleaders.
