The legendary Ngwenya and team, are part of the national music tour in collaboration with Kwai Jazz legend Don “Mahwetsa” Laka, that will hit both SA and some SADC States, an idea conceived 30 years’ ago.
The tour also celebrates over 40 years in music for both brands.
Tagged “never seen, never heard before” it was launched in Jozi (Yamaha) on Wednesday, and both award winning Mbaqanga group and Kwai Jazz stars; gave guests a glimpse of what to expect during the specially curated tours.
“As the only surviving founding member of the band, it feels like my late colleagues and friends will join us on stage in spirit and give our fans an unforgettable performance. I’m also excited that Mbaqanga fans will also be spoilt with a Kwai Jazz treat which is something they have never seen before.
Kwai Jazz fans will also experience Don Laka’s music in a different way when we bring the Mbaqanga element to it on stage,” commented Ngwenya.
Expect live concerts with world-class bands and rare performances, as Don fuses his internationally acclaimed Kwai Jazz magic on existing Soul Brothers music and Soul Brothers will return the favour by blending in their award-winning sound on Laka’s catalogue.
Workshops will be conducted by both Don and the group for aspiring budding musicians.
“I will be sharing insights on longevity and educating young people on the business end of the music industry as part of each tour stop. This is a great opportunity for young musicians to learn firsthand from our experiences and learnings so they are readied on what to expect in their musical journeys,” says the bespectacled Don, accompanied by strong, peppered Pitori accent.
The tour will take place in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Northwest, Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, and Free State, and will cross the border to Swaziland, Botswana and Namibia.
Tour dates and venues will be announced at later stage.
Meanwhile, following their successful Revival Tour that began last year August in Tembisa, Soul Brothers will stage a one night-show at the Vosloorus Civic Centre, East Rand on March 10 2018.
The tour, as part of reconnecting with their die-hard fans, has been to cities and towns in areas such as Mpumalanga, KwaZulu Natal, North West, Gauteng, Pietermaritzburg, Ermelo, Estcourt, Kagiso and Empangeni.
The tour also promotes their latest album offering Uphelile Umdeni Wam’.
For the die-hard Soul Brothers fans, the story of this multi-award winning band is now available in a biographical book titled Soul Brothers: The Life And Times.
As part of the band’s efforts to reconnect with their spiritual fan bases and family, Ngwenya says that they’re talking to partners in an effort to stage a tribute show for the fallen heroes of the South Brothers.
