Aucump, who is a DA member and Mayor Solly Msimango’s chief of staff, was placed on special leave before being ordered to tender the resignation by his boss.
“I note that Ms Marietha Aucamp has formally tendered her resignation from her position as the chief of staff in the office of the executive mayor of Tshwane after having been asked to do so.
“I wish to state that I accept her resignation and will inform the office of the city manager‚ to whom the chief of staff reports‚ so as to observe all processes in this regard‚” said the Mayor.
Aucump is believed to have obtained a BTech qualification but turned out to be false.
Msimanga said he was prepared to resign if it was found he acted improperly, while investigation are on going.
ANC in Tshwane and other opposition parties are calling for the Mayor to step down following this blunder.
