Butler made the undertaking as he prepares to WOW his fans for the much awaited SA tour.
Under his belt Butler has also recorded almost 20 albums since the start of his both local and international musical journey. The age-defying celebrated guitarist Butler (50) promises fire, passion and interaction with his fans during the two live performances shows.
During his two legged tour, Johannesburg and Cape Town, fans are in for a thrilling evening firstly, opening at Carnival City’s Top Arena tomorrow night before heading to the coast his birth place on Friday at Grand West Casino.
“This is Jonathan Butler’s life story told through music. I will be interacting with the audience to understand me better as a person and a musician. It is an up close and personal musical journey.
I will be transparent during my performances, talking about my highs and lows, where I grew up, where I am now and where I am heading to with my music and life in general,” said the soft spoken guitarist.
During the show, images will be displayed on the big screen of people and places that influenced Butler’s life, whether in music or otherwise.
For the very first time, audience will have a chance to ask him questions during his performance.
“I am a bit nervous as I don’t know what to expect, especially the Q & A sessions. The audience can also make a request of their favourite songs. With more than 20 records I have done, some of the songs I might have forgotten the lyrics a bit, but if they start the tune I will be able to remember it”, added the born again Butler.
He says he is proud to start his musical concept in South Africa, where his ancestral roots are. Then he will spread it to the rest of the world.
According to Butler, the concert is a preparation for his Christmas tour in the United States next month.
Butler says he does not want to be boxed as a certain genre of music maker, but to a music maker. He is finalizing his gospel album Grace and Mercy, which will be released early next year.
The latter promises to come back to the country on a longer period musical tour with his band and during that time he’s considering recording an album featuring local musicians, one of them being Lira.
The left handed guitarist says the legendary “George Benson is his living favourite guitarist of all times, and he (Benson) gave me one of his guitars from his collection and, his Surrender album as it has elements of South African roots,” he commented.
Ticket for two shows costs between R150 – R250 for both cities and are available at Computickets oulets.
