Its’ key message is to encourage fellow South Africans -for an extra hour in their
busy lives- dedicate time to worthy projects in their respective communities.
Since its successful launch last year, the Jungle One Hour Project has attracted
over thousands of public figures to this all important cause.
“And they dedicate their time for free,” says the delighted Sithembile Mfayela,
Senior Brand Manager at Tiger Brands.
She was speaking during interview at Maponya Mall, Soweto-were invited guests, media
and well known personalities turned the evening into something un-usual.
“As the brand, we’re happy that our celebrities availed themselves to this cause for
free, because they know that this is for the underprivileged and orphaned
organizations,” quiped Mfayela who also took part in the cycling challenge but lost,
I hear.
Sweat, aahs and oohs were the order of the evening as the participants tried to
outnumber each other during the Cycling one hour drill.
Jungle was turned into a virtual bike track where competitors got to race against
each other up the side of the building, rhetorically speaking…
Ok, the likes of “Queen Moroka” (Generations star) who lost her make-up during the
drill and Kabelo “Bugga Luv” Mabalane (looking fit and 2013 SAMA Kwaito nominee)
impressed the well wishers who braced the chilly evening.
According to Mfayela, the project would also visit other strategic areas throughout
the country, in an effort to reach out and disseminate the importance of this
national project.
Posed, to her what is or will be different from other similar projects, the
unassuming Mfayela (bucket sweating) said the project’s model compels winners both
media and celebrities to donate half their winning earnings to their respective
organizations.
“In this sense, we make them feel they’re part of the Jungle One Hour project
instead of giving money to them. That’s how different and unique this project is, no
wonder it also takes place in the evening,” she said, quenching the thirst with a
cold one.
“Bugga Luv” won the celebrity challenge and will donate R 30 000 to Shout SA, and
Lesego Ngobeni, multimedia journalist from Talk Radio 702 won the media challenge
and wins R5 000 in cash and R5 000 worth of Jungle Oats product to donate to a
charity of his choice.

Let there be jungle out there!
