As part of its concerted effort to win back tourists in South Africa one of the finest and luxurious locomotives Premier Classe, recently unveiled the route to Port Elizabeth, as part of marketing the brand locally.
Premier Classe is in the same league as Rovos and Blue Train and this new route is part of stamping their authority within the higher (Living Standard Measure) category and win back travelers who have penchant for locomotive travel.
Although launched last month, already numbers are steadily picking up.
“The introduction of the Premier Classe’s new Port Elizabeth route has resulted in a more luxurious and less costly travel option being available to passengers,” read the press release.
Passenger Rail Agency of SA, which is the mother company established recently The Mainline Passenger Services whose task is to market and promote extensively both Premier Classe (long distance) and their cash-cow Shosholoza Meyl which caters for locals.
According to Mphefo Ramutloa, Executive at MLPS, they responded to the call following a huge outcry from the public on the services to PE.
“As a service provider that is responsive to the needs of the people we serve, we have introduced these services following demands by passengers. This service will ensure that passengers now reach their destination in PE with the utmost luxury and comfort,” said MLPS Executive Head Mphefo Ramutloa.
For only R1,840 single trip, one can enjoy the comfort, luxury, tranquility and uber service on what has been termed ‘hotel on wheels’.
Package includes three meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner and soft drinks but for spirits and others, one has to pay.

Premier Classe departs from Johannesburg on Fridays and returns on Sundays weekly, and for those who would like to hop along with their SUVs or vehicle, a rate of R2,810 will apply.
“This ensures that we offer a comprehensive travel service by not only transporting people but ferrying their vehicles too. Both these services come at a reasonable price considering the current economic climate,” said Ramutloa.
The PE route was only serviced by the Shosholoza Meyl in the past and with the introduction of Premier Classe, tills will be clinging unapologetically, stru!
This forms larger part of PRASA’s strategy to introduce the locomotive to both local and international market.
According to Lesedi Mapheto, head of Communications and Marketing at MLPS, they will be conducting promotions as part of the company’s marketing campaigns in no- distant-future.
