Residents are demanding that Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba allocate them houses and convert unused government buildings into RDP houses.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said traffic in the area was flowing freely without disruptions.
King Edward Preparatory School has also sent out a letter warning parents of possible disruptions on Thursday morning.
The police’s Mavela Masondo: “Early in the morning, there were about 50 people tried to block Louis Both Avenue. Police managed to chase that group away. At the moment there are no signs of blockades but the police will be in the area to make sure that everything goes smoothly.”
“The situation is calm at the moment. On all the major roads traffic is flowing but police are still monitoring the area,” he said adding that no arrests had been made.
Meanwhile, ANC Pres Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa is addressing angry residents of Alexandra, who have been on a weeklong march demanding better services, allocation of RDP houses, crime, dirt, etc.
Premier David Makhura also met the protesters who aired the same views that were attributed to Ramaphosa, reports Sydney Morweng- News Ed.
