Fired Maroleng to fight back

Yes, ask the wayward Hlaudi Motsoeneng he’ll narrate it best.

To prove how hot it is, the axed former SABC COO Chris Maroleng is seeking legal advice after being shown the door, hardly six months in the position.

“The SABC board met on Tuesday April 23. After due consideration of the findings and recommendations of a disciplinary process‚ the board resolved to terminate the contract … with immediate effect,” said a terse media release from the public broadcaster.

In his response Maroleng, said he felt “quite devastated” after being axed and insisted that he had acted in the best interests of the broadcaster.

“Even though I do take note‚ and I accept‚ that the disciplinary committee was in a position to make the findings that they have‚ I am currently considering my options with my legal advisers‚” he told 702.

The former MTN executive said he would most likely appeal against the decision to dismiss him.

“I want to put on record that in all my actions at the SABC I didn’t act out of self-interest‚ I didn’t act to enrich myself. I didn’t act in a way would bring disgrace to the SABC‚” he said.

Maroleng’s dismissal comes after the installment of a new board by the Portfolio Committee of Communications ahead of general elections May 8.

The candidates to fill the eight vacancies are as follows:

Mary Papayya

Jasmina Patel

Advocate Motshedi Benjamin Lekalakala

Professor Saths Cooper

Dr Marcia Socikwa

Mamaduphi Mohlala-Mulaudzi

Bernedette Muthien

David Maimela
