Activation of the travel Stokvel for local holidaymakers

Amidst the revelry on the populated grounds of the deep Soweto-located arts venue, the duo stakeholders took advantage of the event hosted on Women’s Day, to encourage visitors an opportunity to sign up for a travel savings plan, offered especially to festival-goers at a drastically reduced amount to the usual fee.

Normally rated at the standard minimum figure of R500 – attendees on the day could contribute a mere R100, to set themselves off on monthly savings which would ultimately accumulate into funds to enable them to realize travelling within the country.

Encouraged by SA Tourism’s Sho’t Left campaign exhorting citizens to explore their country, the initiative aimed, through affordable group savings and an alternative savings solution, to cater for potential tourists as well as those who might not have travelled before.

According to the head of domestic tourism at South African Tourism, Mashoto Mokgethi, the Flight Centre Stokvel was structured in such a manner as to afford members ample time to plan their excursions thoroughly, and with the assurance of travelling debt free!

Offered a representative in the partnership, Business Leader Emerging Markets at the Flight Centre Travel Group, Lance Nkwe, “Partnering with a credible partner that backs the idea of getting all South Africans to travel their country is very important,” adding, “As the fulfillment partner, we want to show South Africans that it is possible and easier through our Stokvel solution.”

At the festival the partners’ hospitality area, furnished with a beachside theme with a black-suited security detail located strategically at entry points, a festival atmosphere permeated, accentuated by select guests chatting away over colourful refreshments whilst an adjacent photo booth experienced a bee line of visitors seeking visual mementos featuring manipulated background locations.

Beyond the select area, a mixture of aromas wafted above various edibles stalls offering appetizing fare to gourmands – with watering holes such as Ilanga Bar also having their presence felt with their tantalizing eclectic concoctions flying off the counter intended for thirsty throats!

And with the venue being a creative space and the occasion being celebratory, when revelers were not sampling the fare and imbibing, they were spotted and snapped boogieing to the musical sounds of Nelisiwe Sibiya, Simmy, Sun-El Musician and numerous others, performing from an overlooking stage.
