Failing to put out the fire already engulfing and political parties having none of it, Clicks SA should hold their heads in shame.
We hear the fact that Clicks did not authorise the Ad and all that, but one thing is certain they knew the campaign was to be aired and one way or the other, someone should take a blame.
Firing and suspending executives does not bode well for the company that claims is proudly South African and non-sexist or practice racism.
Nonkululeko Gobodo, the company’s non-executive, clutching the straws, said the blame should squarely be laid-bare on Unilever, the company that markets Tresemme brand.
There’s more to this Miss Gobodo, an introspection is needed at the company you represent.
In response, Unilever through its PR company Edelman says:” We are very sorry that images used in a TRESemmé South Africa marketing campaign on the Clicks website promoted racist stereotypes about hair.
The campaign set out to celebrate the beauty of all hair types and the range of solutions that TRESemmé offers, but we got it wrong. The images are not in line with the values of our brand, or of Clicks.
TRESemmé South Africa apologises for the offence these images have caused.
We also apologise to the Clicks group. We are looking into how this happened and why it wasn’t picked up, and we will take all necessary steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
We sent the following questions: what’s the stance of Unilever on Tresemme brand; what measures would be put in place to avoid the repeat of such in future and do you as Unilever take full responsibility of what happened as per Clicks Group Non executive Nonkululeko Gobobodo’s blaming you for the Ad?
In a terse response the agency indicated “Our client will not be engaging in interviews at this point in time but will reach out when we decide to and have suitable updates.”
A special message to EFF, we disregard the man-handling of reporters, intimidation and burning of stores because at the end of the day the very same people whom you hurt are our sisters and brothers, finish & klaar!
