National Lotteries Commission backs Badminton SA

The NLC has agreed to fund numerous BSA projects that focus on Transformation and Development, Capacity Building and High Performance.

The NLC Grant of R 3 796 000.00 is the biggest grant ever received by BSA and makes them our primary funder. The NLC relies on funds from the proceeds of the National Lottery. The Lotteries Act guides the way in which NLC funding may be allocated.

The intention of NLC funding is to make a difference to the lives of all South Africans, especially those more vulnerable and to improve the sustainability of the beneficiary organisations.

Available funds are distributed to registered and qualifying non-profit organisations in the fields of charities; arts, culture and national heritage; and sport and recreation. By placing its emphasis on areas of greatest need and potential, the NLC contributes to South Africa’s development.

For badminton, the period following COVID19 year brings with it a ‘reset’ of programs and priorities. In 2020, BSA undertook a review of its activities and 2021 marks the beginning of the implementation of a new forward[1]thinking Strategic Plan, designed to transform the sport.

The financial support provided by the NLC will make it possible for BSA to accomplish the goals set out in the new plan. The structures of BSA are busy with finalising the implementation plans so we can maximise the benefits to our members, which after all, represent our greatest asset. The strategy is important as it speaks to all stakeholders of the sport.

“It’s not just a plan for Badminton South Africa,” said Klaas Visser, President.

“Our Provincial Associations and Committees, in particular, have contributed a lot to the development of the plan, to ensure we’re all playing complementary and supporting roles to turn the game around.”

“We are hugely indebted to our previous President, Glen Brothers and our previous COO Celeste Coughlan, who together with the help of key stakeholders developed the Strategic and Implementation Plan and submitted the application on our behalf,” stated Klaas Visser, President.
