RedSquare Dance competition returns. Its bolder and feisty. Ayishe ‘teki

IT’S BACK, BOLDER and fresher!

After a pause in 2021 due to the pandemic the annual RedSquare Dance Competition returns.

If this program does not contribute to the country’s job creation- then clearly we’re not having enough of RedSquare drink, stru!

So, groups and solo dancers that believe they are nifty in S’bhujwa (Beng/Vosho), S’pantsula and hip-hop are called to enter the dance competition. Female groups will compete separately.

With a whopping R180 000 cash prizes on offer, this year’s theme has been coined ‘Nay’ Le Dance’- a kasie slang for ‘there goes that dance’.

Entries are open from Feb 13 and close 28, 2022.

Auditions will be held in Soweto, Ekurhuleni, Emfuleni, Tshwane, Polokwane, Durban and Bloemfontein.

“The year 2022 would have been a Hola 7 years celebration for the RedSquare Dance Competition, but then Covid 19 happened. As a responsible brand, we had to play our part in saving lives. There is excitement from a brand perspective that we have an opportunity to pick up where we left off.

We are ready to welcome dance participants out to make the 2022 leg of the competition even more exciting,” says Edward Makhanye, RedSquare Sales Manager.

A winning crew in each category stand a chance to take home R40 000 with solo dancers competing for R10 000 in cash.

An overall winner of the competition stands to pocket an extra R10 000.

So, amapuntsula, hip-hopsters, or any group or soloist there goes that dance challenge. ‘Ayishe teki’.

Previous winners of the RedSquare Dance Competition include the Soweto dance crew – Soulistic Fusion Trio who pocketed R50 000 in 2015, followed by The S’bhujwa dance group the following year.

In 2017 Musa Motha, a member of a hip dance group Dynamic Crew, used his one leg to help his crew win R35 000.

The finals will be held April 30.
