The department’s Tseliso Maqubela said that the shift would help motorists save on costs, but admitted the quality of diesel in the country needs to be looked at.
“It is better for the pockets of the consumers in the long run, we believe, and it’s better for the environment. Of course in saying that, we must clean our diesel as well,” he was quoted in an Eyewitness News report.
Motorists, meanwhile, will be paying less for both petrol and diesel after the price dropped.
A litre of petrol in Gauteng dropped from R14,33 to R13.66, while the price of diesel dropped by between 24 cents and 25 cents a litre.
