THE WAIT is over for what is set to be an exciting month of fast-paced and high-energy cricket.
The stage is finally set and South Africa has all rallied together to officially #TurnItUp for Africa’s first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. With tickets in high demand, the nation is setting the tone to be part of sporting history, which starts tonight when the Proteas take on Sir Lanka at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town in the opening fixture.
The euphoria around the country is palpable and a lively cast of female artists and award-winning DJs headline the entertainment line-up for the opening game and will set the stage in a South African-inspired carnival to open the tournament in style.
The opening ceremony will be celebrated in a uniquely African way, with the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival, local Drum Majorettes and the South African Navy Band bringing the vibe in a jam-packed opening ceremony which is set to thrill and entertain.
In addition to the entertainment, fans will be treated to fun giveaways, kids’ activity zones and fan club areas, making it a memorable and inclusive experience for everyone.
“It’s a huge honour to be part of this momentous occasion. Playing in the biggest women’s cricket game ever in South Africa is a dream come true,” said Proteas captain, Sune Luus.
Newlands Stadium has hosted monumental tournaments and is undoubtedly one of the world’s most beautiful cricket grounds, with Table Mountain and Devil’s Peak offering the perfect backdrop for this iconic cricket stage.
“The squad is ready to showcase their talent to the world, and I’m sure every fan at the stadium wants to witness history in the making, plus an entertaining match,” adds Luus.
The Women’s T20 World Cup promises to be a thrilling tournament, with some of the best female cricketers in the world taking part. The Proteas will be aiming for nothing less than a win in the opening game, and a sold-out crowd at Newlands Stadium would be the perfect backdrop as they face winners of the 2012 edition of the T20 World Cup.
Fans are encouraged to #TurnItUp in support of the tournament, their favourite teams and players, who will be in action over 15 days until the 26th of February.
Tickets across the three venues – Newlands, Boland Park and St George’s Park – are available at stadium ticket offices and online via https://womens.t20worldcup.com/tickets.
