“WE will bounce back,” that’s the assurance from Jono Leaf-Wright, CEO at DP World Wanderers Stadium.
This follows the loss by ‘The Pride of Jozi’ as Lions are known to Momentum Multiply Titans claiming a mammoth 117 atDP World Wanderers in Johannesburg, last Friday night, during the T20 Challenge clash.
DP World Lions are the defending champions.
After the Lions won the toss and put the Titans in to bat, the visitors were powered by half centuries from Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Keegan Petersen and Donovan Ferreira as they amassed a monster 258/6 in their 20 overs.
The Lions’ chase was over within the first three overs as they crashed to 8/5, however a big half century from Evan Jones, 83 off 48 balls (5×4; 6×6) saved their blushes as they eventually finished on 141/8.
The Lions team comprised of Zubayr Hamza, Wandile Makwetu (wk), Muhammad Manack, Mitchell Van Buuren (c), Connor Esterhuizen, Delano Potgieter, Evan Jones, Codi Yusuf, Lutho Sipamla, Kwena Maphaka and Junaid Dawood
Albeit not packed as expected, fans came in droves as kids enjoyed off the pitch blushes and entertainment, as the blue-sky hovered the stadium.
‘This was a real test for us, as defending champs; but we shall bounce back very soon’, warned Jono, who had to catch a breather from the ground after engaging with the players on the pitch.
The enthusiastic Jono also confirmed his contract has been extended to further 5-years’. To add cherry on top of the cake, more sponsors were also confirmed such as Telkom and Joburg Tourism.
