Africa Tech fest to showcase some of HONOR’s top gadgets

HONOR is busy and catching everyone’s attention.

If this Chinese brand is not activating, it is unleashing the latest HONOR X7d, an indication the device was built around the country’s ‘only-in-Mzansi’ challenges:  long hours, unpredictable weather, environments and lifestyles that contrast sharply within moments, load-shedding, and a deep need for reliable performance at an affordable price.

On Saturday the activation was at Menlyn Mall, Pretoria, were it hosted Blue Bulls rugby and Mamelodi Sundowns players. Not to be outdone, a select brand ambassadors and actors showed face in the brand new X7d.

Soccer stars Ronwen WilliamsandThemba Zwane, along with rugby icons and fan-favourite entertainers Wiseman Mncube,Penny Ntuli,Lindough, andDedrick shoots, rolled up their sleeves and stepped behind the counters, joining sales teams to engage directly with shoppers.

“We wanted to come closer to our consumers not just by speaking to them, but by meeting them where they are. The Menlyn Mall takeover was our way of stepping into their world, celebrating their energy, and showing that HONOR is truly a part of their everyday lives,” commented Fred Zhou, HONOR South Africa CEO.

The new gadget comes with 6 500 mAh dual-cell battery, and delivers all-day energy with 35W HONOR Supercharge, giving hours of use after just a few minutes on the plug.

It’s SGS Premium Drop Protection is a clear indication of its intention: this highly welcome approach has been tested to withstand falls from up to 1.8 metres.

The reinforced Rhinoceros-like frame and IP65 Water Resistance protect it from rain, dust and the occasional tumble. It’s the kind of phone that survives a taxi dash or a beach day without stress.

The Instant AI Button is HONOR’s quiet genius move: one tap launches your favourite app or speeds up background performance; hold it down to unlock AI Eraser, AI Translation or AI Creation tools. It’s intuitive tech that works behind the scenes, from translating a WhatsApp from home to removing photo clutter before you post.

“South Africans are realistic enough to know what life can’t be worry-free, but we believe our devices should help to make people worry less.

Adding unexpected conveniences makes this device launch even more rewarding,” continued Zhou. “It’s not just another phone. It’s your daily workhorse, your commuter smart-tool and your rain-proof companion, that can handle pressure as well as a South African can,” he boasted.

It is available for R 3 999 in Desert Gold and Velvet Black.

Meanwhile, HONOR will also showcase at the Africa Tech Festival 2025.

It begins from November 11 to 13 at the Cape Town ICC.

Local and international tech brands will be on display at this years’ 28th tech fest.

Africa Tech Festival is Africa’s biggest showcase of enterprise tech innovation across key sectors like telecoms, connectivity, cybersecurity, cloud and data centres, green ICT, and media and entertainment.

As over 15,000 global attendees, more than 300 exhibitors, and 450 speakers come together in Cape Town, they are connecting the local ecosystem with the world and reaffirming the city’s status as Africa’s tech capital.
