Appollis shows his mettle against Panama, but Bafana can still improve

LYLE Foster should have won his team this game, instead of a draw against the Central American side Panama.

Foster missed countless opportunities that could have settled the nerves of fans, but had to settle for a 1-all draw at the half packed Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, last night.

Thanks to Orlando Pirates on-form striker Oswin Appollis, who scored a brilliant goal after a build-up from the middle of the park- in the second half.

The EPL’s Burnley striker Foster faced the keeper of Panama on several occasions but failed dismally to give is side a lead in the first-half.

As a result, he was substituted in the second half for the more hungrier Bucs’ Evidence Makgopa, who made his presence felt by intimidating the defence of the visitors.

Foster must get his acts together if he want to book himself a place to the WC, stru…

Legendary Themba Zwane proved he still has the engine and experience to carry the team to the 2026 World Cup to be held in USA, Canada and Mexico.

His sublime touches left Panama in awe, hence he found himself being tackled more than the rest of his teammates.

His fellow at Sundowns’ Aubrey Modiba should have tested Panama’s keeper but instead hit the ground, so should have Tebogo Mokoena whose thunderous shot was parried by the keeper.

Bafana gave a good account if only the on-form Bucs’s Relebohile Mofokeng had brought his scoring boots, after being introduced in the second half by coach Hugo Broos, who indicated was “happy with the outcome though the boys could have taken their chances”.

The next assignment against the same Panama is Cape Town next Tuesday, if only coach and his technical team would use other players as he prepares for the WC.
