SAMA32 -artists fail to show up, but production on point

SUN CITY– Twice Grammy award winner Tyla delivered a resounding message to her fellow messages.

“Stay true to your identity” she remarked at the South African Music Award32, held at Sun City resort on Saturday evening, that solicited a standing ovation.

She was honoured with AfriPure International Achievement Award.

Sans poor attendance and artists shunning the awards, the organisers did put up a good show.

Aggressive marketing is needed to pull in the crowd, after-all they do have enough budget.

The fans were also disappointed that Jazzwrld and Thukuthela, Simphiwe Dana, Francois van Coke and others, did not honour the evening with their presence, considering the awards are supposed to be treated as our ‘Grammy’s.

‘AWEH’ hit-maker Lordkez who had taken over SA by storm on the song, that features SAMA’s host Cassper Nyovest, won the Best R&B/ Soul Album- You, Me and the 90s.

The first evening on Friday- also featured Mmabana Arts Culture & Sport Foundation, Langa Mavuso and Kryptonic Kreative, who took to the stage as part of celebrating winners alongside a host of other artists and creative professionals.

RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi, opined SAMAs have always been about more than the spotlight.

“They are about recognising the artists, producers, engineers, directors, collaborators and creative minds whose collective work continues to move South African music forward.

The winners represent the incredible depth of talent within our industry, and we congratulate every one of them on this well-deserved recognition,” echoed Sibisi.

He added that SAMA32’s return to the North West makes this year’s celebration particularly significant.

“There is something special about bringing the SAMAs home.

The North West has played an important role in the history of these awards and in our country’s cultural story. SAMA32 celebrates that legacy, but it is equally about looking forward and recognising the new sounds, new voices and new creative possibilities that continue to emerge from South Africa.”

Newly minted Sports, Arts and Culture, MEC in the NW- Wessels Morweng, was in attendance and said he’s happy the awards have returned home.
