The competition has grown by leaps and bounds having attracted ladies-who have gone to make their indelible mark in the deejaying industry.
“Divalash” was slandered by jealous male competitors for all sorts of things, but she preserved and was the ultimate winner.
In comes Lipalisa “DJ Deepee” Mpemi, the only female to make it to the 2015 RedSquare DJ Battle finale.
The Vaal born who also studies Marketing at VUT (preparing for third year in 2016), says she fell in love with spinning the discs despite her first love being a dancer.
On the competition, she says:” Its’ been too tough, those guys are insanely good,” she says of her fellow competitors that participated at the auditions in the Vaal.
Having been a spin juggler for two years thus far “DJ Deepee” has fired a salvo:” Obviously I want to win, anything is possible.”
“DJ Deepee” will battle it out against Kwanele Sikhakhane (came second in 2013 but last year was knocked out early), Mduduzi Thango aka “DJ Douza” (Vaal), “DJ Crowsa” Sekaoke from Atteridgeville; Vincent “DJ Vince” Maseko who is originally from Mahikeng but is now based in Roodepoort and Adrew “DJ Druza” Mashaba from Hamanskraal.
The rest of the finalists, completing a total of thirteen, will come from Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Durban, Newcastle, Bloemfontein and Cape Town.
Since 2007, the RedSquare DJ KnockOut Challenge has been catering for the needs of Mzansi’s emerging talent in search of opportunities to boost and turn their lives around for the better.
