The taxi driver reportedly got out of his Toyota Quantum minibus and punched her in the face.
The (78) actress was left with a black eye.
Passengers from the taxi are believed to have intervened.
Twitter and the public were outraged at the incident and some called on the SAPS and South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) to make sure that the taxi driver faces the full might of the law, who is still at large.
”Mbaks” says the Police must act to apprehend the perpetrator.
One Twitter responded: “Can people please respect our elders! You can’t assault someone this old no matter what and a woman for that matter! This is absolutely wrong. Hope you are well Mam Abigail Kubeka. The taxi driver should be arrested.”
At time of publishing Mam Abigail was recovering but unavailable for a comment.
