An all-female boxing extravaganza scheduled for Soweto, for the very first time!

THE SA women’s sport in mzansi is on another level.

As we celebrate our national cricket female Proteas team, for having qualified for the first ever ODI world cup finals, women’s boxing is following hot on their heels!

On December 5 2025, an all-female boxing extravaganza returns to the infamous Eyethu Heritage Hall, Mofolo, Soweto.

This is to conscientious residents of Soweto and other Joburgers on the revival of female boxing in what has been billed “Bringing Sexy Back – Boxing Meets Fashion” on the evening, ko kasie.

Think of Laila Ali- the daughter of the great Muhammed Ali and others…

Now it’s the turn of SA to produce its own jewel, and thanks to Women in Boxing Promoter’s led by the ambitious Joy Mahanetsa, who is hosting 12 female fighters across six divisions, from SA and Malawi, for this epic clash.

Not to be forgotten, legends such as Jacob “Baby Jake” Matlala, Lehlohonolo “Hands of Stone” Ledwaba, Arthur “The Fighting Prince” Mayisela, Enoch “Schoolboy” Hlapo, and Dingaan “The Rose of Soweto” Thobela, will be honoured posthumously.

Erstwhile celebrated trainer Ntate Norman “Bra Nox” Hlabane, will be introduced as an ambassador for the sport and mentor to the next generation of coaches through upcoming mentorship programmes.

“This event is more than a boxing tournament – it’s a movement,” says Mahanetsa, spokesperson for the Women in Boxing and event promoter.

“We’re reigniting a powerful legacy and placing women at the centre of a story that began in Soweto — one that belongs to every South African who loves boxing and believes in its future.

It’s beauty, heritage, and fashion — all in one ring.”

“Boxing has always been part of our culture — from Madiba’s training days at the YMCA to our world champions’ triumphs on the global stage,” adds Mahanetsa.

“Now, it’s time to bring that pride home.” With “Bringing Sexy Back”, we’re reviving that spirit, empowering women, and bringing communities together in celebration of resilience and style.

According to the organisers, the evening will feature six bouts, local performances, and a celebration of South Africa’s sporting and cultural heritage.

It’s not just a fight card – it’s an experience that merges glamour and grit, reminding audiences that boxing still has the power to inspire, unite, and entertain…

Talk of entertainment, fans are encouraged to purchase premium tickets on time to avoid disappointment, that will include a full three-course dining experience and complimentary beverages on the night.
