This was the assurance of MEC for arts, sports and culture in Limpopo Onica Mokgobedi-Moloi at the annual Mapungubwe Arts festival media launch, held at the historic World Heriatge Site.
Mokgobedi -Moloi admitted that the past shenanigans’ have dented the image of the brand and should have not been allowed.
“We’re working with artists and all of us are on same page thus far,” said one of the youngest MECs in the Limpopo Cabinet.
The Mapangubwe Arts Festival has been scheduled to take place from December 1 to 17 2016.
Headlining the music fest is world celebrated music exponent Angélique Kidjo- a Beninese Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter and activist- Caiphus “Katse” Semenya, Selaelo “Brr Pha” Selota, Colbert Mukwevho and others.
The fest is the flagship project of the department that began as a Melting Pot fest aimed at attracting citizens from all cultures and other neighbouring SADC States, to celebrate heritage and traditions together.
It is expected to draw thousands of revelers and generating over R100m pre and post the fest.
“Our province is unique from all other provinces in the country with various cultures. Limpopo is known for being peaceful to itself and welcoming, thus we call upon all our people to open up their arms to welcome droves of masses attending the festival,” she said.
This year, we’re going full throttle we’re not sparing anything, our cultural diversity is so important that we cannot be complacent and apologetic about,” says the buoyant MEC tagged ‘razzmatazz of Limpopo”.
“Our is to increase footprint to other regions by also hosting the beauty pageant, Legends awards and indigenous foods stalls for our revelers,” said MEC Mokgobedi-Moloi, after being asked what other marketing mechanisms would be put into place to bring back the glory days of the Mapungubwe fest.
Over the year’s fists flew and blood splattered all over; as a result of unpaid moneys to artists to such an extent the fest was on the verge of being cancelled altogether.
Last year, home owners around the stadium were the music fest is held, complaint bitterly about noise pollution and garbage strewn all over.
But as the MEC promised, all that has been taken to consideration without divulging much.
Poetry sessions, arts, indigenous games, films, comedy and indigenous cuisine (hosted by world renowned Chef and astoundingly beautiful Siba Mntongana) are part of the R10m budgeted fest.
According to bra Joe Chakela, well known music promoter of note tickets will be available from Computicket Outlets.
The main fest will be held at Polokwane Stadium.
