“I’VE come back from addiction, from where nobody wanted me to now, where I stand on the biggest stage,” remarked the winner of See It Again- jockey Andrew Fortune.
The pint-sized Fortune, very fortune considering his previous addiction, won the 2026 Gr 1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met race on Saturday, celebrating its 164th edition.
The race card boasted two Grade 1 features: the World Sports Betting Cape Town Met (R5 million stake) with 11 top thoroughbreds at the starting gate, and renowned fillies’ race, the Maine Chance Farms Majorca Stakes.
With fans dressed to glitz and glamour, thanks to a wonderful day outing, from the onset backed See It Again, though some felt other horses stood better chance to win, but it was not to be.
“See It Again and I both have comeback stories, and this win has just been amazing for both of us,” continued the winner Fortune.
“If anyone out there is at their lowest point thinking nothing is possible, Andrew proves you can come back from anything. He’s been there every week, works flat out, and solely deserves this.
It’s a case of right horse, right time, right person,” exclaimed Justin Snaith, trainer of See It Again.
Stephen Marshall, Marketing Events and Broadcasting for Race Coast, celebrated the flawless execution of the 164th World Sports Betting Cape Town Met alluding: “The six months of planning and two weeks of build-up paid off – we’ve had an amazing vibe today with all of the fashion, entertainment and hospitality.”
