Chiefs’ defender Morgan Gould says that his teammates have forgotten about the 1-0 MTN8 first leg semifinal defeat to Pirates and have set their targets on three valuable league points at the expense of their neighbours.
“The weekend defeat to Pirates is not a setback for us,” said the former SuperSport United skipper.
“We are not looking at the past, but we know that now we have another massive game on our hands.”
With Chiefs having recorded a league double last season over Swallows, Gould has warned that it is a new ball game this season and events of the last season will not have a bearing on the current one.
“The past is the past, but it is as good as it lasts,” he added.
“It is a new season and we can’t dwell on the past too much, but we can determine our future by doing well on the field in our next match.”
Chiefs opened the defence of their league title with a 1-0 win away to Mpumalanga Black Aces.
The Amakhosi are placed fourth on the Absa Premiership log with three points after the first round of matches.
Swallows began their league campaign with a 1-0 home win over the University of Pretoria.
The Birds are placed sixth on the on the log with three points after the first round of matches.
Their striker Siyabonga “Bhele” Nomvethe believes that his team should guard against a backlash from Chiefs and look to rectify last season’s two demoralising defeats to them.
“Once Chiefs get their tails up in a match they are difficult to stop,” said Nomvethe.
“With derby games like it happened with Chiefs and Pirates this past weekend, anything can happen on the day.
“Psychologically it won’t affect us when we play them knowing that we had lost to them twice last season, it is now a new chapter we have to write.
“We are going to the match looking for three points because I desperately want to win this game.”
