Bucs, Downs and Stellies the pride of SA!

CONGRATULATORY messages continue to pour in as Team SA hoist the flag.

Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch all proceeded to the semi-finals on their respective CAF championships League assignments.

Bucs beat MC Alger 1-0 (away) on aggregate to book a place in the CAF semi-finals.

At the hostile Orlando Stadium, on the second leg, thanks to unsavoury behaviour of Alger fans, Bucs held on to a goalless draw.

The out-going coach Jose Riveiro, has an incomplete task, having been with the club for three-years.

Despite turning the black and white outfit, into cup specialist, he should at least finish what he started.

This week, the Spaniard who came to SA and faced backlash, labelled ‘woodwork boy’ did the unthinkable. Today he’s a darling amongst fans and players YET, he did not renew his contract for the coming season, indicating wants to ‘spend time with family’.

The Soweto glamour side now will face Pyramids in the semi-final – a feat that they’ve reached for the first time since losing as finalists in 2013.

On Sunday, they face Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, a silverware they’ve won three times.

Downs’ who are the pride of PSL, having won the elusive title consecutively, would want to proceed to the finals of the CAF champs league and pocket a cool USD4 million (approx. R78,5 million) cheque.

They will meet Al Ahly in the semis, having passed through Esperance beating them 1-0 in the first leg and playing goalless draw in the second leg at Loftus Stadium, in Pretoria.

Esperance fans misbehaved and Police had to be called in as they ran rampant.

The Tshwane side face Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals at Loftus on Sunday afternoon.

Another good story to tell, Stellenbosch FC booked their place in a first-ever CAF Confederation Cup semi-final with a historic 1-0 victory over Egyptian giants Zamalek.

Stellies will now face Tanzanian side Simba FC, who is coached by South African Fadlu Davids.

The game against Zamalek was toxic as well, as fans were unruly on the evening.

This kind of demonstration by Eastern Africa fans should be addressed by CAF/FIFA as soon as possible, before we report of casualties, PLEASE!

We say halala to the teams for flying our SA flag high in pride and honour, on the Continent!
