‘Cat’ Matlala with nine kids, and ‘nine lives’ appears at the Ad Hoc Committee

BURBERRY attire cause drama at the appearance of convict Vusimusi “Cat Matlala, better known as ‘John Wick’ in Mamelodi.

On Wednesday morning Matlala, heavily guarded and chained, made his presentation before the Police Ad hoc Committee at the unusual venue- Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Services, Pretoria.

He’s in custody facing charges including attempted murder on ex-girlfriend, conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering.

Looking dapper in Burberry white shirt, belt, trouser and shoes, not forgetting the Gucci eye-wear, Matlala, who seemed uncomfortable at the beginning, as hordes of reporters milled around, told the Committee and evidence leader SC Norman Arendse that he did not depose a signed statement- which for a while had members jostling.

“It is not a precondition to have a signed statement before appearing. What is important is that he gives his evidence under oath and is held to whatever answers he gives,” said Arendse to MPs, that irked EFFs leader Julius Malema to intervene.

“There is actually no problem with the proposal to proceed. To compare this with Mkhwanazi is difficult to understand. Mkhwanazi wanted to depose an affidavit; he just titled it differently, and we told him to correct it,” said Malema, after initially uMkhonto weSizwe (MK)’s Party Sibonelo Nomvalo arguing that established committee practice required a proper, signed document before any witness could be questioned.

“The Cat is here at the commission. Let’s attend to the issues we said we wanted to attend to yesterday (Wednesday),” Malema said on a lighter note.

During his testimony Matlala, conceded explosively that former minister of Police, Bheki Cele, handed him stash of cash, and also ‘lied under oath’

He stayed at my penthouse, he conceded.

He also confirmed he spoke on several occasions with Brown Mogotsi, and met with ‘put on leave’ Lt. General Shadrack Sibiya.

He also mentioned he knew and met with suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, amongst others.

Matlala, who has nine kids and a wife, will this morning continue with his testimony.
