Orlando Pirates and Platinum Stars dropped points at the weekend, and Chiefs need just a single point from their two remaining fixtures to be crowned league champions for the first time in eight years.
“We have been more hungry,” Khune said on Monday.
“We had a vision and we planned very well at the beginning of the season, so this is what we expected come end of the season.
“We deserve to be where we are and what’s coming our way because we really worked hard for it.”
Chiefs will wrap up the title with one match to spare if they draw against SuperSport United on Wednesday.
They will also be aiming for a league and cup double as they come against SuperSport again in the Nedbank Cup final in Durban next week.
While the odds were stacked heavily in his side’s favour, Khune said it was crucial that they remained in control, as they still had to go out and perform.
“For the team to find ourselves where we are, it’s because we’ve been doing it for the team,” Khune said.
“Our supporters have played a major role by coming to the stadium, and whatever we win we dedicate it to them. They deserve it.”

“Nothing is in the back pocket yet. We just have to go on Wednesday and put the nail in the coffin.
“We’ve been doing so well as a team since the beginning of the season.”
Khune was part of the Chiefs squad that won the league crown in the 2004/05 campaign, but he had not yet earned his place among the team’s first-choice players.
The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper said it would be a special feeling to win the league after being a vital member of the squad this time around.
“I’ve won things before with a club that I’ve never played for,” he said.
“It brought joy to me, but I think now it’s going to bring more joy because I’ve contributed to the club’s success.”
However, pundits have warned that permutations could count against Amakhosi, provided Platinum Stars does the unthinkable and score more than estimated 8-goals.
