The company released a media statement distancing themselves from a clearly ‘photoshopped’ cover which was posted by the popular DJ on his Instagram page.
The picture was published yesterday with the caption: “The most spoken about energy drink in the market. I did warn them last year ukuthi uyeza umlilo. We have the most famous KORKOTI in the game.”
“An image of a magazine Forbes cover featuring DJ Sbu Leope is fake” the company said on Monday.
“The cover in question has been fabricated by Mr Leope and in no way represents or warrants an endorsement by Forbes Africa or its affiliates,” the company stated.
This is not the first time the DJ’s marketing tricks have landed him in hot water.
Leope, was suspended for a week for promoting his new business adventure, Mofaya (an energy drink) at the Metro FM awards last month.
According to a report in the Sunday World, he could also be forced to pay for the ‘free’ advertising he gave himself.
“I respect the SABC and its processes,” the paper quoted him saying. “I’m prepared to pay the money, but I think it should be done to other DJs as well because I’m not the only one who mentions their brands on air.”
Ed Note: This is an obvious reference to colleague and flamboyant Tbo Touch, who hosts the daily afternoon show Touch Down.
Touch on numerous occasions promotes his businesses during the show and the station or SABC has not acted against such practice.
Currently, Leope is still suspended.
