GAUTENG residents have been warned about possible water disruptions in the coming days due to Rand Water’s planned infrastructure maintenance.
Rand Water stated that the planned maintenance program is designed to enhance plant availability, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the overall reliability of Rainwater’s services.
The maintenance work will be carried out at various sites, with each project scheduled to begin and end on different dates to ensure smooth execution and minimal disruption.
Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni are expected to be affected by the maintenance work.
The first phase of the maintenance program will begin at the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant this Saturday, and is expected to conclude on Monday.
At this plant, the utility will focus on essential upgrades and performance enhancements.
The second phase will run from Friday, December 19, through Sunday.
This phase encompasses additional infrastructure improvements designed to enhance long-term operational stability.
The third phase will commence on January 6 and conclude on Thursday.
“The purpose of this plan maintenance is to perform critical infrastructure maintenance that will improve plant availability, reliability and operational efficiency,” said Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo.
The utility stated that these maintenance activities have been strategically scheduled for the traditionally low-consumption months of December 2025 and January 2026.
“By aligning the work with periods of reduced water use, the company aims to minimise disruption to customers and effectively manage any potential impact on water supply services,” she added.
