Fired controversial Hawks head adamant he’s still boss

This follows reports that Ntlemeza has not vacated his office.

Say what? Fired Hawks boss Berning Ntlemeza says he’s still in charge.

The tooth-gapped former Hawks boss was last week fired by newly installed minister of Police Fikile Mbalula, following the Pretoria court ruling that his appointment was unconstitutional.

His lawyer Comfort Ngidi confirmed Ntlemeza has not vacated his office because he’s still in charge.

According to The Star, Ngidi said Ntlemeza would report for duty on Monday next week as he was taking the matter to the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Ngidi said that section 18 of Superior Courts Act 10 of 2013 “gives us automatic right of appealing the court’s decision. We don’t have to ask for permission. By operation of section 18, General Ntlemeza is still in office. That’s how we interpret it. He will be back on Monday next week.”

Mbalula has moved swiftly by appointing former WC Lieutenant-General Yolisa Matakata as Ntlemeza’s replacement.

It seems this ugly war will take long before it ends.

At the time of publishing Mbalula’s office had not responded for a comment.
