‘Ma-Mbeki’ as she was known in her community died this past weekend after a long illness.
She was the son to former President Thabo and political analyst Moeletsi.
“The president and the entire government acknowledge the immense contribution made by this stalwart in ensuring that the apartheid system that was characterised by so many injustices was dismantled,” Radebe said.
“As South Africans, we are grateful for that and continue to pay tribute to this struggle veteran whose credentials are well documented. It is therefore befitting that she gets a dignified funeral.”
She died at the age of 98 and was the wife of academic and apartheid icon Govan Mbeki.
The funeral will take place in Dutywa, Eastern Cape, on Saturday.
Radebe said Zuma authorised the national flag to be flown at half-mast at every flag station in the province on Saturday.
One of the ANC gallant’s Walter Sisulu famously said:” I lived my life eternally and to the fullest.” That’s the life Gogo lived…
Gogo MaMbeki enjoyed sewing and bead work which she introduced to the members of her community.
