Grade 12s in Limpopo benefit from Telkom Foundation’s donation

TELKOM Foundation is proud to announce an empowering initiative aimed at providing support for Grade 12 mathematics learners in Ga-Maake Village.

The event, which took place at the Community Hall on 26 July, is set to benefit as many as 180 mathematics students from seven surrounding schools.

“This initiative, led by the Telkom Foundation and supported by Lightbulb Edtech, is poised to accelerate mathematics education in Ga-Maake Village, including a lecture that will emphasise a geometric interpretation approach to learning mathematical concepts,” says Judy Vilakazi, Head of Telkom Foundation.

“This method is expected to enhance the quality of mathematics education in the Thabina and Mafarana circuits, benefiting both learners and teachers,” she added.

In addition, Telkom Foundation will be donating 100 smartphones to enable learners to access the Lightbulb platform, bringing forth cutting-edge mobile learning solutions that empower learners to excel.

Purpose of the initiative

Material support: Providing essential resources such as devices, scientific calculators, and mathematics sets to Grade 12 learners from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

Enhanced learning: The emphasis on geometric interpretation aims to deepen learners’ understanding of mathematical concepts.

Career exposure: Introducing learners and teachers to future career opportunities that require mathematics knowledge, beyond the teaching profession.

The Lightbulb activation showcases the capabilities of the Lightbulb platform to facilitate interactive and effective online learning, while the BCX Alibaba activation demonstrates innovative solutions to support educational initiatives.

Telkom Foundation has been instrumental in supporting the mathematics education initiative in Ga-Maake Village. Demonstrating the advanced capabilities of the Lightbulb learning platform underscores Telkom Foundation’s commitment to enhancing educational experiences and ensuring that all students have the resources they need to succeed.

“We are thrilled to support this initiative, which aligns with our commitment to empowering the youth through education,” says Vilakazi. “By leveraging technology and innovative teaching methods, we aim to provide quality educational resources to all learners, regardless of their background.”

“At Lightbulb Edtech, we believe in the transformative power of education,” says Allan Mushabe, CEO of Lightbulb Edtech. “Through this partnership, we aim to make mathematics education more accessible and engaging, ensuring that no learner is left behind.”

This event marks a significant step towards educational excellence and inclusivity in Ga-Maake Village.
