On Thursday mzansi was awash with police raiding and seizure that featured top of the range sports cars, gadgets and houses.
In Centurion, the home of suspended Deputy Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Shadrack Sibiya, was raided and valuable gadgets confiscated by members of the Kwazulu-Natal elite police, whose motorcade had KZN number plates.
This has to do with the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team in the province.
During media briefing outside his compound, the visibly frustrated Sibiya confirmed that “police confiscated three of my cellphones during a search and seizure operation”.
He also put the blame squarely on his boss the National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, who is appearing at the Ad Hoc Committee in Parliament on the PKTT discontinuation.
“I blame Masemola for this raid, and should anything untoward happen to me, he’s to blame,” he said, alongside his celebrated criminal lawyer Ian Levitt.
Levitt confirmed they will make follow up on the search and seizure matter.
Sibiya who is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission and the Ad Hoc Committee says, he will not be pushed to resign. “They must fire me”.
On the same day, the on-leave, Chief of Staff in the Office of ‘suspended’ Police Minister Senzo Mchunu cited that he’s being targeted after the raid at his home.
Addressing media in Sandton, said ‘there’s a target on my head’ following the raiding.
He said the officers in balaclava arrived at his place to seize electronic devices as part of on-going investigation, of which he lamented “I’ve got nothing to hide. Let me also have my day and present my case to both the Madlanga Commission and the Ad Hoc Committee.”
In the leafy suburbs of Sandton, three Lamborginis were seized by the Special Investigation Unit.
The raid took place at the controversial businessman Hangwani Maumela property, who is linked to the ongoing investigation into the Tembisa Hospital, worth R2bn.
Its alleged he’s also a niece to President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa, from his first wife.
It is reported he amassed over R800m worth of contracts throughout the years’.
SIU senior communications manager Ngwako Motsieng, said they cannot disclose the value of the vehicles and luxury items seized at the home of Maumela, whom its unconfirmed if he was home at the time of the raid.
Other seized assets include top end furniture that were loaded onto trucks that were lined-up along the property, which police and SIU were manning like a hawk.
