EASTER (Holy) days have come early for some.
With the buzzword asap! ‘Find the bunny promotion crisscrossing the country, Soweto has produced its winner in Patience Ngwenya from Meadowlands or lexicon ‘Ndofaya’.
The (29) single mother of three, is the Pick n Pay asap! bunny winner worth R100 000.
She says, although she uses the asap! App a lot, she thought her eyes were deceiving upon seeing a bunny in sun-glasses when a driver delivered grocery.
“I knew about the campaign because I am a frequent shopper, but I wasn’t sure how it worked, but I was hoping to find a bunny,” and she did, after placing an order for Easter eggs, soap, bread, Sprite, Raid, Domestos and washing powder.
When the delivery arrived, Ngwenya was personally requested by the driver to come and collect her parcels. “I usually send my kids to get the groceries, so this was out of the ordinary.”
Unpacking her bags, she found the sunglasses-wearing bunny and gave it to her son – until she read the accompanying pamphlet that said she’d won R100 000.
“I shouted at him to bring the bunny back. I was shocked – I’m still shocked. It hasn’t sunk in yet, maybe when the money reflects in my bank account.”
Ngwenya runs her own small candle manufacturing business together with her brother, supplying spaza shops, churches and event planners.
She plans to use the money to buy groceries. “I’m a mother of three, I always need more food. The kids also have savings accounts, so I will save for them, and also buy stock for my business. This money will be making money for me,” she said.
The ‘Ndofaya’ based Ngwenya said the money had come at a time when she was “going through the most”. “Pick n Pay, I still cannot believe it, but I am grateful, thank you so much.”
Patience is ‘virtue’, as the adage goes or kanjani?
The asap! ‘Find the bunny, get the money!’ promotion sees 22 hand-crocheted bunnies given away to asap! customers – one per day until 1 April 2024 – each with a R100 000 prize attached.
To win, all shoppers have to do is place an order on the Pick n Pay asap! app, and if the bunny is hiding among their groceries, they’ve win R100 000.
Yes, its time for early Easter-eggs et al for the family.
