MJV De Boi-born Boy Martin Mpholo has performed and shared stage with artists one could only dream of but still, he’s been looked down upon.
Why, I ask during telephonic interview and retorts “connection my broer”.
Having performed, choreographed and being a composer for the likes of Big Nuz, Arthur Mafokate’s 999 Music, TKZee, Mashamplani, Gabi Le Roux of Mandoza’s Nkalakatha fame, Idols judge and Metro FM presenter Unathi and Nutty Nys, one would have thought the soft speaking MJV De Boi, would be gracing covers of magazines and being sought after dancer but DOLOLO…
The 33 year-old from Evaton, is neither perturbed by the negativity or ‘let down’ but is steaming ahead with future projections: to entertain.
He has been scheduled to perform at the annual RedSquare DJ KnockOut Finale on December 16 2016 at Dickinson Park, Vereeniging.
As and when I’m about to focus on another topic, MJV which stands for Majaivana, intercepts and says in this “industry you cannot make it without connection. Money and connection are both intertwined,” he says with a heavy heart.
“One would have thought with the calibre of friends and artists one met, everything will fall into place, alas not,” he said as a warning to others.
“I know that feeling but its people like us who must keep pushing that envelope,” says MJV De Boi, who entered the industry as far back as 1990s, that saw him release Trendsetter that was recently on high rotation on stations like Y-FM and his latest single Yase Vaal.
Screams of admiration, especially from the ladies, always tail his smooth shuffling of the feet when he dances while swinging and swirling his middle frame.
In township parlance he may be referred to as ‘Loss Matheka’ – loose waist -but for him the show goes on to cement that recognition he yearns for.
At the annual RedSquare DJs knockout 10th edition, of which he will be performing for the very first time, says he promises his fans dope show from kwaito house to superb choreography on stage.
