“This is the second historically disadvantaged university to be involved in the training of medical doctors,” Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini told reporters in Parliament.
“[It] is linked, over the longer term, to the presidential project of building an academic hospital in Limpopo.”
This was the country’s ninth medical school.
The intake at the Sol Plaatje University and the University of Mpumalanga had increased to 797 and 940 respectively, she said.
