WHAT WILL happen to President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa in the coming weeks is unknown.
This follows Parliament to postponement to meet next week on the Phala Phala farm saga. It was initially meant to meet today.
An independent body Section 89 panel report has deliberated on the matter and found the President ‘may’ have a case to answer. That alone did not go well with various legal eagles and political parties having a field day.
On Monday, the ANC held a media brief and said the NEC and its structures decided to throw its full support behind Ramaphosa, who has filed an application to have the recommendations on the Section 89 independent panel report reviewed and set aside.
According to Treasurer General and acting SG Paul Mashatile, the ANC NEC has instructed its parliamentary caucus to vote against the Section 89 independent panel report when Parliament meets next week and to respect this decision.
“He will take the matter on review. He will subject himself to other processes of the integrity commission. There is another process of the Hawks, the Public Protector, those processes are going to continue,” when asked what will be next since the NEC is fully behind the President and said he will still be accountable.
S89 report found that Pres Ramaphosa may have violated his oath of office by not reporting the burglary and theft of over US$500,000 in cash at his Phala Phala game farm in 2020.
Mashatile said that the ANC NEC could not make a decision while court proceedings were still ongoing.
He cannot step aside when he’s not been found guilty, he said.
Asked on the jittery of the markets, Mashatile said the country is stabilised and therefore investors should have confidence in the ANC and Gvt of the day.
With only 2-weeks left before the ruling party’s election at Nasrec, its unclear what will happen to Pres Ramaphosa and the country?
