Runner found after gone missing, as messages of congrats to winners Gerda, Tete continues

FISH Hoek Athletic Club runner Moira Harding has been found, after gone missing at the 98th Comrades Marathon on Sunday.

She was found in a critical condition on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Durban, on Monday morning.

On Sunday, appeals for help were shared widely on social media after she went missing at the Comrades finish, were she represented the Fish Hoek Athletic Club from Cape Town but originally from Durban.

She had competed with her sister Fiona, but lost each other along the route.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, KZN SAPS spokesperson, confirmed police are investigating the circumstances around Harding’s disappearance.

“The woman was found on Monday morning after an intensive search by police’s Search and Rescue officers, working with other law enforcement and private entities.

She was found in the Point area of Durban. She is currently in hospital and although she was found with no visible injuries, police will await medical report which will determine police’s next course of action,” he said.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, said a search was launched for the missing runner who was found on Monday morning (June 9).

“She was found in a critical state and was transported to hospital by helicopter. Advanced life support paramedics, SAPS, Metro Police Search and Rescue were all on scene near the NSRI base at the end of Mahatma Gandhi Road (Point Road),” Jamieson said.

Her brother-in-law, Sean Baldwin, said they were relieved that she has been found safe.

The Comrades Marathon organisers and the board, said they were relieved she was found and safe, and have also sent messages of well-wishes to Harding and family.

Meanwhile, messages of congratulations have been directed to both winners of the 98th Comrades Marathon, SA born but UAE based Gerda Steyn and Mahikeng (North West province) star Tete Dijana.
