THE 2025 card migration has been extended, for the very last time.
The South African Social Security Agency, has extended the switching of gold cards to black, until April 2025.
This was confirmed by the acting CEO Themba Matlou, during media engagement in Sandton, on a rainy Thursday evening.
“Look as per Batho Pele ethos, of which we prescribe to, we and the executive, in consultation with the Minister of Social Development, took a resolution that, we extend the deadline of card migration, that will finally come to an end in April,” promised Matlou.
The issuing of new cards is as per the Reserve Bank and Postbank.
“We realised it won’t serve the purpose to focus on the deadline, knowing very well that many of our people or (Grant recipients) haven’t switched, especially in far flung areas of our country, hence the decision to extend. And I promise it will be the end of the extension,” quipped the acting CEO, who was accompanied by his executive team.
Close to 940 000 recipients have not migrated to a new system.
“We hope to strengthen our working relation with the municipalities, the Traditional houses, nationally, to help conscientious the recipients to switch to black cards, and reach that 940 000 number before cut off date,” he said.
Matlou warned the issuing of black cards is to curtail corruption, improve organisational management and improve on their newly established Fraud Management System.
Rachel Setshedi, acting regional executive manager SASSA Gauteng, said they’re working tirelessly to improve internal and external services to avoid glitches such as cyber-attacks and others, that would impair on delivering funds to the needy.
In driving the message, the CEO and his executive promised to engage media to create public awareness on the looming deadline, through campaigns.
