PROTECT a child, you protect a community!
The McDonalds SA is following in those steps, having backed the Ronald McDonald House Charities SA since its establishment in 2012.
On Tuesday, the second RMHC -Lactation Center was unveiled at one of Africa’s biggest hospital’s Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
RMHC’s Lactation Centres are one of the few facilities in South Africa that offer free post-natal and community programs for mothers that require lactation support services.
The centres are equipped with hospital-grade breast pumps, a calming and sanitised environment, and support from trained professionals, who understand the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby are well established.
The WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for six months without introducing any other commercial breast milk substitutes, liquids, or solid foods.
The unveiling of the center also coincides with World Breastfeeding Awareness week.
The expansion of this facility follows the first RMHC SA that is located in the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Parktown, Johannesburg.
RMHC SA’s newly appointed CEO, Matshepo Msibi says: “Being able to launch our second Lactation Centre not only means that we are able to give mothers an environment for them to express milk for their infants, but also being able to give back to the health community, and we also have Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital to thank for allowing us to create this relationship with the institution,” remarked a thrilled Msibi.
RMHC SA caters and support thousands of seriously ill children and their families, carers, and guardians, hence Msibi opined “we love doing this job”.
“The institution is proud to be associated with the launch of the new centre.
It’s heart-warming to see that organizations like RMHC are still passionate about the well-being of new mothers.
We hope to help more women with their breastfeeding journey,” says Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital’s CEO, Nthabiseng Makgana.
Gauteng MEC of Health- Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, said she was happy seeing the second Lactation Center being opened at Bara and will help the mothers and new baby born’s to have a secure, clean and fully operational environment.
Out-going McDSA CEO- Greg Solomon was over-joyed and thanked Bara hospital and other partners for unveiling the second and most important center.
Through our accommodation and support services, we strive to build a community that nurtures and empowers seriously ill children and their families, says Msibi.
