But in South Africa, we’re talking the gorgeous and simple Siba Mtongana, the famed cook.
Yesterday, at the launch of Siba’s Table season 2, guests and media were treated to a ‘sit-down lunch and drinks in the Sky’ at the classical Fairways Hotel, next to Randburg.
Yes, some of my fellow colleagues with Acrophobia (fear of heights) had their lunch ‘down there’-bloody cowards!
As the crane took us up in the sky-perhaps 48m high- Siba, in the company of husband took us down the memory lane on her achievements, hardwork, family (she has two bubbly boys), and loads of international traveling.
The former Drum Magazine Food Editor, in her new show once again shares the rich fusion of culture with modern South African food and gives the traditional recipes she grew up with a totally modern twist, while injecting them with international flavours.
“I love cooking and the recipe I always have in my cooking or kitchen is ginger,” she says beautifully, who also admitted she misses the boys when busy with shoots.
Siba’s Table Season 2 premieres on October 16 (FooD Network DStv Channel 175) from 8pm.
