LENMED, in collaboration with Gijima, Fedics Catering Services and The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, has launched a computer skills training initiative aimed at empowering unemployed youth from Lenasia, Soweto, and nearby areas, and semi-skilled workers from Lenmed’s supplier network.
The program is designed to improve participants’ computer literacy and digital skills, helping bridge the digital divide and promoting a more inclusive, tech-driven society enabling employability.
As technology becomes increasingly essential for personal and professional success, many still lack access to the necessary training and resources. To address this, Lenmed, Gijima, Fedics Catering Services and The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation have joined forces to make a positive social impact through this initiative.
“We’re excited to partner with Gijima, Fedics Catering Services and The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation to provide computer training to deserving members of our community,” said Amil Devchand, Group CEO of Lenmed. “This sponsorship advances our mission of fostering prosperous communities and creating a digitally inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
Ahmed Kathrada Foundation communications manager, Anele Gcwabe, added, “The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation is excited to have joined efforts with Lenmed and Gijima in delivering this essential computer training for young people.
This is a collaboration that empowers our youth with valuable digital skills, opening doors to new opportunities and a brighter, more inclusive future”.
Aranka Verster, Managing Director of Human Capital at Gijima, spoke on the company’s vision for upskilling: “At Gijima, we believe that upskilling is key to building a brighter future for South Africa.
In a country with such high levels of unemployment, it is our responsibility to equip individuals with the tools they need to improve their circumstances. Through initiatives like this, we are helping to create a workforce that is educated, resilient, and capable of competing in a global digital economy.
Our goal is to foster a generation of South Africans who can carve out opportunities for themselves and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the country.”
The program, held at Lenmed Nursing College in October and November, is expected to graduate 50 participants with basic computer literacy and digital communication skills. The program will have a profound impact on both employees and youth, helping them advance their careers and stay adaptable in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
“Tsebo Solutions trading as Fedics Catering is proud to announce our sponsorship of meals for the CSI Gijima Lenmed Training program.
This initiative reflects our commitment to corporate responsibility and our dedication to empowering the youth of South Africa. In partnership with Lenmed, Gijima, and the Lenmed Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, we aim to upskill young individuals, providing them with valuable knowledge and skills to enhance their prospects. Our collaboration underscores the importance of community support and our shared goal of fostering growth and development among South Africa’s youth. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this training will have on the participants and are excited to have contributed to their journey towards success” said Nicholas Scheltens, District Manager – Healthwise.
Bhavani Jeena, Head of People and Culture at Lenmed, who spearheaded this initiative, offered “I believe that empowering our youth with essential computer skills is not just a strategic initiative; it’s a commitment to building a brighter future for our community.
In a country facing high unemployment, equipping the next generation with the tools they need to succeed is crucial. This initiative reflects our dedication to nurturing talent and fostering opportunities, ultimately driving positive change in society.”
