WITH economy unfavourable and fuel sky rocketing, doesn’t it make sense to consider the kind of a car one must buy, as a result of the mentioned concerns?
Well, look no further than the Suzuki Fronx 1.5GLX.
The pumped-up hatchback ticked all the above concerns with ease; affordability and reliant on fuel, it make sense why it is second the best-selling vehicle in SA within the cross-over market.
I had an opportunity to test this so called ‘SUV’ during the December period, and it came in handy in all aspects.
With dimension length: 3,995mm and width: 1,765 Fronx feels agile and small enough to park, which seemed problematic during the festive season due to scarcity of parking, especially in relative small Malls.
The interior has been ramped up with burgundy trim that covers parts of the seat and inner door panels and cockpit, too nice.
The boot comes at 304 litres, of which for me and my traveling crew seemed perfect as we travel light, you don’t want to lose valuable stuff during December period, and excitement can turn into a disaster!
From GLX range-topper sporting a 9.0-inch (22.8cm) touchscreen infotainment system as well as a 360-degree surround view camera to head-up display, wireless phone charger and push-button start, it made one’s life convenient, so is the auto climate control, cruise control and 16-inch alloys. Ahh, so were tinted windows to cool off the soaring heat we’re experiencing.
The Fronx safety kit includes six airbags and ESP stability control.
Other features includes climate system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
My niece and nephew (bloody agents) were kept busy on their mobiles- thanks to USB-A and USB-C sockets, and rear air vents for comfort enhancement.
Suzuki Fronx 1.5 GLX 4AT is nicely fitted with contrasting black roof that gives it a sleek silhouette and distinctive two-tier LED headlamps.
The four-speed automatic transmission Fronx is fitted with the venerable 1.5-litre K15B normally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 77kW and 138Nm.
Yes, the engine seemed to struggle a bit with take-off especially on hills, but when it does get its mojo back, it’s see me now, see me no more!
Settling at average 6.8 l/100 km, the pedal was closer to 5.9 l/100 km, meaning it accelerates in a linear fashion and moderate throttle.
As for fuel, a full tank took me a week, of course dependent on acceleration, but when coming to saving petrol, Fronx 1.5GLX is to go to guy. Amen!
Pricing stands at R368,900
