With more than 1700 (the highest entries) since the inception of the awards, the finalists for the coveted Station of the Year title has been revealed.
The awards ceremony takes place at Sandton Convention Center on April 22.
Metro FM is regarded as one of cash-cows for the troubled SABC, yet its exclusion has left many mindboggled.
Although no response was forthcoming from the organizers on the matter, other top radio stations from commercial, community to campus are making inroads.
“The excitement that the announcement of category finalists is generating is
confirmation that radio is the best medium to engage with a nation,” says Sydney Mbhele, Chief Marketing Officer, Liberty Group.
“The finalists in the Station of the Year category have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in the radio industry, and this resonates with the values that Liberty has inculcated over the last 60 years to guide our customers towards financial freedom, using media such a radio to also do this.
A solid future for radio ensures increased access to knowledge and
information and ultimately empowers listeners with the ability to make informed choices.”
The adjudication panel takes the following criteria into account:
Quality and depth of entries, On-Air success and innovation, Audience numbers, Community outreach,
Understanding of listener and focus X-factor.
