The Joburg Ladies Open tees off with the exception of Swedish defender Linn Grant

THE much awaited 2023 Joburg Ladies Open tees-off from Wednesday, March 1 at the Modderfontein Golf Club in the east of Johannesburg, until 4.

Top SA and international golfers will be strutting their stuff at Golf Course, which will be hosting the tournament for the second time.

It is co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Ladies Tour and the European Tour, thus offering spectators a fierce battle on the greens.

The first 2000 people who register will receive free entry, according to the organisers.

The invite-only Pro-Am tees-off on Tuesday, 28 February, and the four-day tournament will begin on Wednesday, 1 March 2023, and conclude on Saturday, 4 March 2023.

Bad news though, Swedish pro-golfer Linn Grant, who won the Joburg Ladies Open 2022 with five strokes, is not part of the tourney due to her packed schedule.

“It’s exciting to walk alongside professional golfers and watch them live in action, but for those who can’t make it to the Modderfontein fairways, they can live-stream or watch on SuperSport channel 213 on Friday and Saturday from 11am to 4pm,” says Bongi Mokaba, the City’s Director of Event Management.

Due to limited parking space at Modderfontein Golf Club, all spectators driving should use the park and ride service.

Parking is available at the Stoneridge Shopping Centre, 1 Hereford and Modderfontein Road.

Metro buses will be shuttling spectators from as early as 6:30am on Wednesday 1 March to Saturday, 4 March 2023. From 4pm, spectators will be transported back to the shopping centre by bus at 30-minute intervals.

All spectators who use Uber services to get to the venue should use the drop-off entrance gate on Pressburg Road, which is along Hole Number 13.

No road closures are planned yet, Mokaba adds, however, the metro police will be working closely with security to manage all traffic and pedestrian movements in the vicinity during the tournament.
