At the time of his death the seasoned campaigner was with North West FM, were he held two slots –a vote of confidence by the station for his wealth of experience behind the mic.
Born in Mahikeng, Mogotsi grew up in Mabopane, north of Pretoria. He also worked for Metro FM as a programme manager. He later joined Kaya FM before landing up with NW FM.
Station Manager David Mabusela said they were saddened by Segale’s death because he was “fine” last week.
He said Mogotsi had asked to be excused to attend his friends’ funerals last weekend.
Mabusela said Mogotsi joined the radio station last year and made a huge difference in a short space of time.
“You could tell by the way he carried himself that he was a seasoned campaigner in broadcasting. Segale was a genius in every way.
“We gave him the two slots because of his experience. We wanted someone who could entertain people, and he did just that,” Mabusela said.
He added that one of Mogotsi’s qualities the station and listeners would miss was his passion for sharing his skills with young people and being a team player.
“You could rely on him. I knew him well because we worked together at Kaya FM.
“I just pray that the young DJs learnt something from him.”
His former colleagues from Glen Lewis, Tim Modise, Ike Tladi, DJ Fresh and Thabiso “TT” Tema, whom they worked together have all paid tributes to this awesome Soul.
The 47 year old also dated Zinzi Mandela, the daughter of the late and former first SA democratically elected President Dr Nelson “Rolihlahla” Mandela.
Personally, I had the privilege to meet and interact with the late on many occasions and would in that husky voice retort “yes my laaitie-hoe gaan dit?” accompanied by that signage smile.
