The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund spoil kids ahead of the big day, this week

AS celebrations build- up to the International Nelson Mandela Day this week, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund hosted the 30th anniversary in spectacular fashion with kids.

Gold Reef City, was turned into fun and joy for over 200 kids, where every child is valued, protected, and free to flourish, as per Madiba’s belief, who believed that his birthday was best spent in the company of children.

From theme park rides and magic shows to storytelling corners, dance performances, and educational games, the Gold Reef City celebration was a safe, inclusive space for children to experience joy and connection, true to the spirit of the Fund’s founding principles.

“This event is a living embodiment of what Madiba envisioned: a society where every child is seen, valued, and celebrated,” said Dr Linda Ncube-Nkomo, CEO of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.

“For 30 years, the Fund has stood as a voice for children’s rights and well-being. Today’s celebration was not only about joy, but also about justice – about reinforcing the importance of play, safety, and belonging as essentials in a child’s development. This is our legacy in action.”

The celebration was made possible through the generous support of sponsors and partners, including Nedbank, the main sponsor for the event.

“At Nedbank, we believe that building a thriving country starts with protecting and empowering its children,” said Poovi Pillay, Executive Head of Social Impact Unit at Nedbank.

“This event reflects our commitment to practically delivering on our purpose to use our financial expertise to do good. Supporting the wellbeing of children is not just part of our social impact work; it is core to our vision for a more inclusive and sustainable South Africa.

We’re honoured to walk this journey alongside the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund,” says Pillay.

This week will also see thousands of SA’s partake in the annual walk and run, at the Wanderers Stadium, on Saturday 19.
