DURING the tabling of the budget for the department of health by Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, he promised three district hospitals will be built.
In his address to Parliament for the 2025/26 Budget speech, the minister emphasised that health is a priority in SA, hence the budget allocated will be channelled to better use and improve the lives of locals.
Dr Motsoaledi said plans to build three new district hospitals were identified in North West, Northern Cape and Mpumalanga.
During the debate on Wednesday, the minister rejected the notion that it is foreigners who overcrowded hospitals, saying that 86% of the facilities are being used by locals.
He also called for all officials from the president to public servants, make use of the public hospitals, saying it would help fix the public healthcare system.
ActionSA Member of Parliament, Dr Kgosi Letlape, backed the idea and said will garner support.
Dr Letlape asked that everyone support the motion he was going to put forth, which was that everyone should use public services.
“If we do that, we can fix our public healthcare system,” says Dr Letlape.
Dr Motsoaledi said he would support the move, if government made it mandatory for public officials to use public services, explaining how it would benefit.
The Health Minister stated that funds used for medical aid subsidies could instead be diverted into the department’s budget for services and maintenance.
